Early Scientific Studies
1967
In 1967, Dr. F. Alvarado and Dr. A. Horvath conducted various studies on the potential health benefits of a number of plants belonging to the Polypodiaceae family. As with any research project, they needed far greater academic and financial support than they had at the outset.
United Nations
1975–1976
Nearly a decade later, in 1975, both doctors, under the auspices of the United Nations, travelled around the world in search of that support. From March 1975 to April 1976, Alvarado and Horvath visited numerous countries and institutions. However, no university, organization or company was willing to provide them with sufficient sponsorship and assistance to carry out their research. Faced with this widespread lack of academic and corporate support, the United Nations also withdrew its backing.
The studies faced an apparent problem that generated disbelief and a lack of interest: the purported beneficial effects appeared without causing side effects.
D. Justo Puig Tró
1976–1978
It was in May 1976 that D. Justo Puig Tró, who at the time headed the scientific and commercial department of a Spanish laboratory, contacted them. His idea was clear: the research had to continue, whatever it took. He would not only provide the financial and corporate support that others had denied them, enabling the studies to continue, but would also actively participate in the research alongside them to help bring it to fruition.
Dr. F. Alvarado and Dr. A. Horvath enthusiastically accepted D. Justo Puig’s proposal. In June 1976, they got to work.
New Horizons
1978
Dr. Horvath left the project. Eventually, D. Justo Puig brought together a diverse group of friends, including other scientists and doctors, joining forces with Dr. F. Alvarado to launch a far more ambitious project. And so they did. But it never succeeded and, although we know the reasons why, that… is another story.

Pioneer of Polypodium leucotomos
1979–2015
It is important to highlight that D. Justo Puig Tró was a pioneer in laying the foundations for advancing the study, research, commercialization, and introduction into the market of supplements and medicines based on plants from the Polypodiaceae family and Polypodium leucotomos (Phlebodium decumanum) extract.
D. Justo Puig Tró provided the necessary impetus at the laboratories where he worked, championing the importance of this type of extract for health and helping them create and market different brands. But his greatest work was still to come, the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to these plants and their active compounds.
Raúl Puig Añón Carries on the Legacy
2016
On December 21, 2016, D. Justo Puig Tró passed away from natural causes. But three days earlier, he wanted to make sure that his son, Raúl Puig, promised him that he would carry on his legacy. He gave him the confidence and strength to do so. Most importantly, he entrusted his son with the unique and exclusive formulation of JP Tró Extract so that it could be made available to everyone.
D. Justo Puig Tró used to say:
“The balance of life is like holding a glowing piece of coal in your hands. Sometimes it gives you warmth; other times, it burns. Learning how to hold it is what we call the art of living. And as long as you dedicate part of your life to improving the lives of others, you will discover that this balance almost always sustains itself.”
