Early Scientific Studies

1967

In 1967, doctors Mr. F. Alvarado and Mr. A. Horvath conducted several studies on the potential health benefits of plants in the Polypodiaceae family. As with many research endeavors, they faced major challenges—chiefly, a lack of academic and financial support.

United Nations Involvement

1976 – 1977

Nearly a decade later, in 1976, under the auspices of the United Nations, both doctors traveled the world in search of backing. From March 1976 to April 1977, they visited numerous countries and institutions. However, no university, organization, or company was willing to provide sufficient sponsorship. Faced with widespread rejection, the United Nations eventually withdrew its support as well.

One significant obstacle: the reported health benefits of the extract occurred without side effects—an outcome met with skepticism and disbelief.

Mr. Justo Puig Tró Steps In

1977 – 1978

In May 1977, Mr. Justo Puig Tró, then heading the scientific and commercial department of a Spanish laboratory, contacted the researchers. He had a clear vision: the research must continue, no matter the cost. He not only offered the financial and corporate backing others had refused but also became personally involved in advancing the studies.

Doctors Alvarado and Horvath enthusiastically accepted his proposal, and by June 1977, they resumed the project with renewed determination.

A New Chapter

1978

Eventually, Dr. Horvath left the project. Justo Puig, together with Dr. Alvarado and a group of supportive colleagues—including scientists and physicians—launched a more ambitious endeavor. Although the project ultimately did not succeed, it laid important groundwork for future developments. The reasons behind its failure remain a story for another time.

Pioneer of Polypodium leucotomos

1979 – 2015

Mr. Puig was a true pioneer, laying the foundation for the research, development, and commercialization of supplements and therapeutics derived from Polypodium leucotomos (also known as Phlebodium decumanum). He championed its health applications and encouraged the laboratories he worked with to invest in the extract’s potential.
Through his support, various products and brands were created and launched. Yet, his most significant contribution was still to come— the culmination of a lifetime of dedication to this remarkable plant and its active compounds.

Mr. Raúl Puig Continues the Legacy

2016

On December 21, 2016, Mr. Justo Puig Tró passed away of natural causes. Just three days earlier, he asked his son, Mr. Raúl Puig, to continue the legacy. He passed on not just his trust and unwavering conviction, but also the unique and exclusive formula of JP Tró Extract, with the mission of sharing it with the world.

Justo Puig Tró often said:
